DJ Derek

Derek was absolutely incredible and we are so glad he got selected for our wedding. The attention to detail he put on each of the songs we selected, including giving suggestions on which part of the song to play to get the best parts of it truly blew us away! He went above and beyond what we expected and we are so grateful. He suggested doing a final private dance just the two of us which was not something we had even thought of being an option. He got several photos from our wedding for us which he did not have to do, but we are so glad he did. His personality and fun spirit were exactly what our big day needed! He kept the crowd going and truly tailored the music at the reception not only to us but also to our little boy, including some of his favorite songs. Our son, who is 3, was so excited about hearing his favorite songs and he still talks about that being one of his favorite moments from the wedding. There are so many great things we could say about Derek and are so grateful for everything he did to make our big day that much more special!

This was our first time using Derek at our event. He highly exceeded our expectations! He was easy to work with, professional, quick to adapt as needed and very energetic. This was a church event so it was important for him to stick to our play list requests and he did so beautifully. We can't wait to have him at our next event!

We entered in the wedding DJ giveaway and won!!! We chose Derek as our DJ and he was amazing from start to finish. Listened to what we wanted and expected during multiple meetings prior to wedding day and absolutely delivered. He is very experienced and gave us exactly what we wanted. The day went by without a hitch and Derek wasn’t only involved in the music but was there for any other questions or concerns we had. Willing to step in where needed. Split Second Sound provided us with the best DJ and experience at our wedding. Derek was absolutely amazing. He made a point to personalize our experience. From taking the time for multiple phone calls to discuss the plans for the wedding, to cutting a verse out of our first dance song to make it the perfect length, to the wedding day where he was super engaging and interactive on the dance floor. We especially enjoyed the live experience with the LED percussionist. I only have positive things to say about Derek and the Split Second Sound team!! To put it simply, DJ's Derek and Rasheed made our wedding one of the most amazing nights of our lives! From the very beginning of this whole wedding planning process I have always said the most important thing to me was that everyone had an amazing time, and because of them I was able to accomplish that. From the time Rohan and I had our meeting with Vinny (the founder of Split Second Sound) I had very high hopes for my wedding and reception, and they did not disappoint. Derek reached out to us a few weeks before our wedding and he basically made our itinerary for us (very much appreciated since we did not have a wedding planner and had no clue what we were doing) and he helped keep everything running smoothly for that entire evening. He was very professional and knowledgeable, and the fact he was so on top of things and kept us in line was amazing since that last week Rohan and I were overwhelmed and just all over the place. (He even reminded me to print out my place cards!) He seriously went above and beyond. Then the ceremony and all started and the rest was history. We felt like we didn't really have to do much because he ran the entire evening. We literally felt like guests at our own wedding... and it was great! The music was amazing and the dance floor felt like it was never empty. Rohan grew up in Botswana so he had requested they play some Kwaito music and they even were able to incorporate that into our reception. At the end of the night we basically had to make people leave because everyone had such a great time. I just can't even express how much I appreciate the work they put into making our day so wonderful. I would recommend them in a heartbeat to anyone planning a wedding!

Summary: Derek and Split Second Sound could not have done a better job for us on our big day! DJ was arguably the wedding vendor we were most excited about and we had originally agreed upon another DJ from Split Second Sound who had subsequently retired so we were a little nervous about the change. Split Second Sound handled the change extremely well and offered an upgraded package at the same price and suggested we interview Derek. Within 5 minutes of meeting Derek, all our questions were answered and we knew that we had to have Derek for our big day. He could not have been more accommodating which was extremely important given how central of a role music plays in our lives and the vision we had for our reception. We sent Derek endless playlists and songs to play and he did an immense amount of prep work to ensure he was prepared on the big day as we had fairly specific taste in music. Derek let me get up on the DJ decks and mix in 4 songs, played one of my own 20 minutes mixes and played a great variety of songs that fit within the themes we had discussed. He also did a great job getting the crowd excited and announcing key moments throughout the reception. He even brought a second DJ and lasers/fog machine! Derek is extremely personable and has a rare client service mindset where he realizes that catering to his clients' needs is the most important thing. He was a big part of making our day special. You will not be disappointed hiring him.

My husband and I were married in late September and Split Second Sound was our first choice from the beginning. Split Second sound was a key component to having fun and keeping the night going throughout the night. Words cannot describe the professionalism and the wonderful job Derek, our DJ did throughout the entire event. My favorite part of our event was the ceremony where I wanted to do something special for my husband and Derek was able to help with ideas that went above and beyond what I could ever hope for. I highly recommend Derek from Split Second Sound.

Split Second Sound was recommended to us by a co-worker when we started looking for a DJ.  We could not have been happier with the recommendation for the company and our DJ, Derek, was absolutely fantastic!  He was very responsive and attentive. We had several calls to discuss our music choices, the vibe we wanted for the wedding and where all of the guests were coming from.  He took the time to ask for the state that everyone was coming from so he could incorporate that into the evening.  Derek was great at getting people out onto the dance floor and engaging everyone for the entire evening.  At the end of the night, he provided us with a CD of all the important and must play songs. Now, we have that CD as a beautiful memento from the day. The setup was great, the sound quality was awesome and he was there well before the ceremony to get everything setup and make sure there were no issues. We could not have been happier with our choice to use Split Second Sound and we would request Derek for any event we could possibly ever plan. We were soooooooo happy having you as our DJ.  We cannot say enough amazing things about you and we cannot wait for someone to plan an event that they need a DJ for. You'll be the first name out of my mouth!

Vinny & Derek, I just want to thank you for helping to make my wedding  memorable to my guests and to John & I. I have received several emails saying Don’t stop believing" has almost become a slogan for the night… My guests loved the music and dancing. Derek was wonderful at our recent wedding!!! Derek did both the ceremony and reception music. Split Second Sound was great and easy to deal with. Derek made the day very special for our family. The guests were talking about how awesome the music was and how easy to talk to he was. I did not worry at any point about what was coming next because I knew Derek was on top of it and prepared for whatever was going to happen. From the beginning Derek was in communication with us about how we wanted things to go. He was able to offer suggestions to make the day exactly what we wanted. He took the time to get to know us and understand what we wanted. I just can not say enough about how he took the stress away and that is priceless on your wedding day. I highly recommend Derek and Split Second Sound. We just wanted to take a minute to say how great you made our wedding!!  I heard many guests say how great you were and fun you made things and they loved the music.  You told me that it would not matter what the temperature would be that day but memories would be made and at the end of the day we would be a family.  How true that was!!! Never at any point in the day did I worry about what was going to happen next....I knew it was under control. I could not have asked for a better day....thanks for being such a big part of that.

Split Second Sound is awesome! DJ Derek provided the atmosphere for one heck of a wedding!  I met with the DJ and we spoke one-on-one about the event and Derek gave several great ideas that were great successes on wedding day.  His professionalism, attention to detail,  personality and stage presence were second to none. I would highly recommend SSS and Derek as DJ of your wedding, our wedding was the event of the year according to our friends.

Oh My Gosh!! It was a fabulous night!! Derek and Danny were more than we even expected!! At 920 I asked Derek if it really had to end, and he said he didn't want to stop either because he was having such a good time, that proves how much he enjoys the party he provides. SSS helped make my baby girls dream reception come true! I know Derek will miss Danny as I understand he is graduating from UNCC school of engineering May 17th. Derek was easy to work with, as noted by the fact that 2 of Caitlin's brothers had not come up with the song they wanted to dance  with their sister with till the morning of the wedding. I called Derek on the way to the church to tell him their song request and he made their request happen. The entire night was full of an excellent music mix as evidenced by the overflowing dance floor at the Holiday Inn Center City roof top venue.

We thoroughly enjoyed working with split second sound!! Our djs Derek and Bradley exceeded our expectations! This was our most expensive vendor besides our caterer but it was worth every penny! Derek had the house under control the entire time and he took all the worry and stress away from me!!  Couldn't have dreamed of anything better :) Thanks so much!!

Derek Andreas was great! Through the whole process he was so nice and friendly and willing to make our wedding day the best it could be. He scheduled times with us to talk, got on skype to meet with us (even though he had never used skype before) and was willing to change anything that we wanted. On the day of the wedding, he got there early, dressed professionally and played some fun music for my groomsmen and I as we wait for the ceremony to start. During the reception, he did a great job of talking and getting input from all the guests, as well as playing a variety of music that we wanted. At one time during the night, the power went out Derek said that there may be a problem with the generator, but then he (and his assistant) took care of the problem themselves and kept the music going, At one point, my wife's father didn't feel comfortable because he couldn't dance to any of the music, but after asking us what kinds of music he liked (we told him Mo Town), he worked some Mo Town in there to accommodate. Split Second Sound has been wonderful all around, made this process not only painless, but enjoyable, and my wife and I will definitely be recommending you all to anyone we know who is looking for a good time :) Thanks again!

Derek and his assistant (we believe his name is Danny, but with all the excitement of the evening we're not sure we're remembering correctly) were awesome for us. We received many compliments from our guests about Derek and his interaction with them, and also about the flow of the music and the flow of the party. Everything was great and went off without a hitch. Derek was a pleasure to work with and very professional and a great asset to your team. We knew once we met him we ad nothing to worry about with the music or entertainment. He had to make a small adjustment on the fly with the time and he did it seamlessly. We can't thank him enough for all he did and I heard great things from many of my guest about how well he mingled with everyone and how much they enjoyed him. The music was perfect and he knew when to get the crowd going and kept everything moving along right on schedule. The service was beyond great and was a wonderful experience for us. Everyone had a great time at our neighborhood "back to school bash!" Derek did an awesome job with the music. We discussed some ideas ahead of time for what we thought everyone would like to hear, then he read the crowd from there and kept everyone dancing the entire night!  We especially loved having two people there. It helped to have someone playing the music while the other was free to interact with the crowd, lead the dancing, hand out party goodies, and in general keep the party going. Everything was handled professionally as well. I would definitely recommend Split Second Sound, and plan to use you for future neighborhood parties.

Split Second Sound did an awesome job with our wedding reception!  Derek and his assistant were wonderful! We actually had an emergency situation happen at our wedding reception, and as most people do, everyone felt the need to leave the room to see what was going on outside.  Derek was VERY proactive in getting the party pumped back up to get everyone back in the room.  He did an awesome job and before we knew it, everyone was back in the room and having a great time.  Thanks to Split Second Sound, we have an amazing reception and would give anything to re-live it!
