Photo provided by Cake Lady JillWhen you
walk into a reception it's usually one of the first things that catches
your eye. From a display of cupcakes to a multi-tiered cake, no two
weddings are the same and no two wedding cakes are the same. Flavors,
design, floral arrangements... the combinations and possibilities are
endless. The most important part the cake plays at the wedding happens
when it's time to cut the cake. Cake cutting is one of the first task
the bride and groom perform
together after becoming officially wed. Traditionally, the bride holds
the knife and the groom places his hand over hers to "help" her cut the
first piece. Afterwards, the bride and groom often feed each other a
piece. These acts symbolize conquering tasks together, as well as
sharing or providing for one another through the marriage.Photo provided by Cake Lady JillWe are lucky to have so many amazing bakers and designers of wedding cakes here in Charlotte. One of them is Cake Lady Jill. For
over 12 years Cake Lady Jill, has designed and baked wedding cakes. They feature top quality ingredientsand completely... read more »

Wedding DJ Charlotte - Bridal Panel

Have you heard about this upcoming bridal panel? We highly recommend all current and future brides to check this out - Even if you just got engaged and are just starting the planning process! We hear from brides all the time that the planning process is overwhelming. Some comments we hear from brides is "I just had no idea what was involved" and "it's hard to know the differences between vendors". As a past, recent bride (married for 4 years), I can relate that the process is overwhelming and sometimes confusing. Photographer 'A' wanted to charge me $XXX but photographer 'B' wanted to charge me almost double for the same service. What was the difference? And why do photographers charge so much anyway? And I can tell you I had no idea what the contract was talking about when it mentioned Print Release and Copyright Release - They're the same right?! Bridal panels are the way to get those questions answered. The vendors are there to help you and they remain anonymous. Why is that great? Because they answer your questions honestly, without them trying to sell their services. Also, bridal panels are a great way to meet other brides who are in the same boat as you - it never hurts to bounce ideas back and forth! Without further hesitation, here is the information about the bridal panel from The Charlotte Wedding Insider website: A
uniquely approached bridal panel on Feb. 12, 2013 at The Hampton Inn
& Suites at Phillips... read more »

In our industry, like so many others, we are forever thankful for
the amazing relationships we form with other professional vendors. Every
Thursday we will feature vendors that we have worked with and highly
recommend. To be a professional means that you consistently deliver top
quality while maintaining strong professional relationships with your
clients and those in your industry. These professionals have been in the
industry for years, or they could be new to the field. They have
mastered their craft and come with a strong business plan. We have had
great success with these vendors. This week we will be
featuring The Ballantyne Hotel, Carolina Wedding Design and Juliet Photography. The
Ballantyne Hotel seems to be a favorite between brides, grooms and
their families. Brides love their various event spaces. From the main
ballroom that can sit up to 600, to The Lodge and outside to the lawn
options, The Ballantyne Hotel is diverse when it comes to options. Are
pictures important to you? The hotel and it's grounds offer some amazing
places that are some of the most picturesque in all of Charlotte.
Grooms love the hotel for it's amazing cuisine and I'm sure we don't
have to mention the golf outings. You guest will love it for the
convenience. Everything is right there. No need to drive to the ceremony
and then to reception site - Charlotte can be difficult to navigate for
your out of town guest. And if you like to be pampered, a... read more »

The weekend of June 30th, Charlotte was subject to 100+ degree temperatures for 4 straight days. One wedding couple came up with some great ideas to offset that for their reception at Firethorne Country Club. 1st, in the bar during cocktail hour, they had flavored ices that guest to add alcohol to for some kick. Then, along with their cake for desert, they put out an ice cream bar. Even though guest stull sweated a little, they danced the night away until it was time to leave. 102 of the 107 guests were all from out of town/state.... read more »

3 most importants vendors at a wedding

Every professional vendor adds to the experience and enhancement of a wedding. Flowers, Video, cake, dress, tuxedo, decor, lighting, etc all play a vital part. But one is the most important, one has the biggest impact and one has the most lasting effect. Most important: A wedding planner. At times and at some locations, the person in charge of your wedding can be a major asset in the planning (ex; Nathan Hoffman at the Charlotte City Club). A wedding planner sets the table for everybody. Sorting out the budget and what the bride really wants and helping get the professional vendors in place to make that vision happen. A good wedding planner understands it's not all glamour as there is dirty, little details that have to get done. A direct line for the bride to deal with family, vendors and just a helping partner to let her enjoy the process.Biggest impact: Entertainment. A DJ can take a good party and make it great or take a struggling party and make it good. An open bar does not cover up bad music, a terrible flow and the obnoxious DJ who thinks he's the star. Lasting impact: The photographer. Why do people think they can take professional wedding pictures because they have a nice camera? The responsibility of someone's precious pictures that will be hung on the walls and looked at over the years in albums is what they will bring back the memories. They are truly artists and so many photographers have... read more »

Using Wedding Professionals

Split Second Sound is using it's resources to help educate future brides and grooms about the benefits of using wedding professionals. Movies like the Wedding singer and the Wedding Planner do not give the real image of what work and details go on behind the scenes. Not every "Wedding DJ is cheesy" and just playing songs doesn't guarantee people will dance. Wedding planners handle a lot of un-glamouros jobs and tasks to pull off a great wedding and often their true value is never realized by brides until afterwards. Photography is not just point and shoot. Angles, lighting, being at the right spot at the right time. Knowing what pictures capture the essence of the reception/event. It is truly an art form. In talking with local professionals, educating clients is the key as the brides and grooms just don't know enough to make all the right decisions. TV and something slanted advice has colored their view on what they need or they believe their tight budget restricts them. No matter what the budget, using professionals on every level helps make the event complete. Professional vendors come in all different price ranges as services vary. Vendors use the analogy that if 1 part doesn't work correctly, it effects the rest of the parts in making a great event and experience. When working with professionals (experienced and/or have a solid business practice), things run smoother and the value the end client and guests receive are so much higher. We are hoping... read more »

The importance of working with a wedding/event professional

Split Second Sound is very fortunate to work with so many professionals with vision, talent and great work ethics in the Charlotte area as well as some outside areas. It not only makes us better, but we know our clients are going to get the very best care (and the jobs are fun too). Some people may think it's easy to plan a wedding, to decorate it, to take creative pictures or have the perfect flow to an event. Even after a 1000 weddings in the last 5 years, we can honestly say it's not! One reason Split won't consider taking on Photography, Videography, planning or anything else, because we are truly not professionals in those areas. We don't just do things because you can charge a few bucks. Working with true artists, as I call them, is a pleasure and makes us even better which in turn make the entire event better.A true wedding/event professional has a certain talent, a knack for making things work out, for working with other professionals and bringing out the best in everyone involved. They care, it's their living. Their name and reputation goes into every event and every referral when they tell their client about another industry professional. Not every event goes according to plan. But to the guest and client, you will never know if you have a professional as your vendor. The ends results are almost always perfect... read more »

Italians are known for family being a huge part of their special day and Nicole and Bruce's wedding was no exception. The reception was held at the beautiful Ballantyne Hotel and Erin Hunter and her staff did a fantastic job as usually from service, to great food, to the room set up. The very creative Blair Phillips and his wife were on hand to take the snap shots. Blair is like a predator, just looking for the best shot and quickly, it's done and he's got it, capturing every great moment. Darin and Chris from Cinematrimony were filming every move of the wedding and the reception. If you don't know, he looks like Vinny's twin! There are so many great vendors in the city of Charlotte and we are so fortunate to work with them all on a regular basis. The entertainers for this wedding were Vinny & Joey (yes, the 2 Italians from NY) and new staff member Sam Shea.... read more »
