A Day With The POTUS

Bruce Springsteen once said, “I have spent my life judging the distance between American reality and the American dream.”
Last Friday, one of our DJ’s dreams collided with his reality. Split Second Sound received a phone call earlier in the week, requesting a DJ for the Clinton Campaign at PNC Music Pavilion. President Obama was the guest speaker. The whole office was, “wowed”. With great consideration, we decided that we would remain neutral and cling to what an amazing opportunity that we had on the other line. We asked if anyone would be available for this incredible opportunity and Rasheed, enthusiastically, raised his hand! Being requested to play on a stage that the President of the United States of America would be standing on must go down in our books as one of the most humbling and proud moments in Split’s history.
I believe after the performance Rasheed put on, nobody would know that Split Second Sound, started as a side job, out of Vinny and Diane’s home, nearly 18 years ago. We were able to sit down with Rasheed and hear about this incredible experience. He told us of the incredibly tight security and protocols that he had to be involved in and abide by; from having to arrive close to 8 hours prior to the doors opening to the public to having his equipment checked and personal information available for background checks. Once the formalities were carried out, Rasheed had free range for the music choices. Proudly, he spoke about being able to take a diverse crowd on a musical journey and perform, instead of playing off a playlist. In fact, he was told that they had a set playlist for right before the POTUS was to take the stage but because of how impressed they were with the crowd interaction, he was able to play through! Rasheed noted that he joked with the interpreter that she might not know all the songs he was going to play and sure enough she knew a lot but just danced through the others. Remaining on stage, while the POTUS spoke, is a moment he will never be able to forget. What an incredible experience to be a part of a day that is written, in the history books.
What an honor for Rasheed and what a great representation of Split Second Sound. You might say, Rasheed was able to share the stage with the POTUS but we say, the POTUS got to share the stage with Rasheed and Split Second Sound! How is that for an American dream, Mr. Springsteen. We look forward to the continued success and the amazing opportunities that our Split Second Family has the opportunity to accumulate, as we grow and evolve. Thank you for your continued support, we are so fortunate to be a part of the smallest of birthdays to playing music for the President. 2016 has been a record breaking and phenomenal year. We cannot wait to see what 2017 has, in store!
